I’d like you to turn to the first book of Athenians, if you would…
What? What do you mean you can’t find it? Why is that?
Because it doesn’t exist!?! Are you sure???
You’re absolutely right! It doesn’t exist.
And do you know why there isn’t a letter to the Athenian church? The reason there is no letter to the Athenian church is because there wasn’t an Athenian church for Apostle Paul to write a letter to.
Though Apostle Paul visited Athens, the greatest apostle of all time, in my opinion, wasn’t able to establish a church in Athens. Now, this begs a very, very, very important question. Why wasn’t he able to establish a church in Athens? And please, if you could turn the Calvinistic-auto-reply of, “Well, it just must not have been God’s will”…please turn that off, at least for today, and hopefully, for the rest of your life. The truth is, the responsibility for planting churches lay in the hands of the body of Christ. The reason is that the Lord has fulfilled His responsibility by already doing everything necessary for churches to be planted. Now, the responsibility is in the hands of those who call themselves followers of Jesus Christ, who have been given more-than-sufficient authority and have been empowered through the baptism in the Holy Spirit to dispel darkness everywhere it rears its ugly head.
The Biblical answer to the question of why Apostle Paul was unable to establish a church in Athens will change your life…absolutely changes your life! When we discover the answer, it will impact you in every area of your life. The answer to the question has the potential to touch every area of your life. (more…)

For now, we have wrapped up our study on what the Bible has to say about Eldership and today, we are going to be laying a foundation to begin a study on Deacons. The Greek word that we translate into the English word deacon, is diakonos, and that word literally means servant. So a deacon is an office in the body of Christ that exists for the purpose of serving. So to better understand the role of deacon, as a servant, let’s set our hearts on pursuing the best example of a servant, and that is Jesus Christ. So, today we’ll be discovering some exciting stuff about Jesus, the Servant…let’s turn to Acts 3, verse 1…
Now this is a passage of a lame man, who was born that way, that was begging for financial assistance at the temple. On a day that he will remember forever, and the encounter has been recorded for all mankind to remember, 2 Spirit-filled, born again believers crossed his path with no money in their pockets…let’s read what happened…
Acts 3:1-18 1 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer. 2 And a man who had been lame from his mother’s womb was being carried along, whom they used to set down every day at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, in order to beg alms of those who were entering the temple. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to go into the temple, he began asking to receive alms. 4 But Peter, along with John, fixed his gaze on him and said, “Look at us!” 5 And he began to give them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene – walk!” 7 And seizing him by the right hand, he raised him up; and immediately his feet and his ankles were strengthened. 8 With a leap he stood upright and began to walk; and he entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God; 10 and they were taking note of him as being the one who used to sit at the Beautiful Gate of the temple to beg alms, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. 11 While he was clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them at the so-called portico of Solomon, full of amazement. 12 But when Peter saw this, he replied to the people, “Men of Israel, why are you amazed at this, or why do you gaze at us, as if by our own power or piety we had made him walk? 13 “The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, the one whom you delivered and disowned in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release Him. 14 “But you disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer (Barabbas) to be granted to you, 15 but put to death the Prince of life, the one whom God raised from the dead, a fact to which we are witnesses. 16 “And on the basis of faith in His name, it is the name of Jesus which has strengthened this man whom you see and know; and the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect health in the presence of you all. 17 “And now, brethren, I know that you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did also. 18 “But the things which God announced beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled.
